A Season of Gratitude

I am in a thankful mood.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and it has me thinking about all the things I’m thankful for.

I am thankful to be leading the Pre-School Family Chapel tomorrow morning. Every other week the Unity pre-schoolers join Bailey Beam and I in the chapel for songs and a Bible lesson. Twice a year we invite their whole family to join us in order to experience a chapel service.

The lesson will be on Psalm 136:1: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. God’s love endures forever.”

We end every pre-school chapel by asking the children what they would like to pray for. They usually include the things in their lives for which they are thankful: their pets, their mom and dad, their toys, dinosaurs (this is a surprisingly popular prayer topic)- you get the idea.

I am going to encourage them, and us, to give thanks for this simple statement- God’s love endures forever.

For something to endure means it is going to last. It is here to stay. It will show endurance.

God’s love endures…it will last…it is here to stay…forever.

If that is not a reason to be thankful, I don’t know what is?!

We will all still have times when we feel down or irritated or upset. You may be feeling like that right now. In those times, I encourage you to remember this psalm. Then thank God for his enduring love for you. Doing so may not change your situation, but it will allow you to approach it with a new perspective.

I am thankful for this church. I look forward to every Sunday I get to spend with you. I am thankful that we have recently completed our Stewardship campaign for 2020, and we received much support and enthusiasm as we put together the budget that will be shared in January.

Thank you Unity.

See you on Sunday!
