Tonight is preschool graduation for those children going on to kindergarten or TK. It will be a celebration of these students and their achievements. It will also celebrate something else very special.
This is Unity’s preschool’s 20th year!
For 20 years Unity’s preschool has ministered to children and families in the Denver community. That means the first students to attend all four years at Unity are graduating from college this year! Unity preschool was created by this church two decades ago as an outreach to the community. This church has always valued education and wanted to provide a space for this to happen. Over the years the preschool has grown substantially and has garnered a reputation as one of the best in the area.
Unity preschool enrolled 25 students in its first year. The preschool enrolled 78 students this year and is already fully registered at 82 students next year!
Our preschool director, Karen Taylor, has been the director for all 20 years! We will be honoring her tonight at graduation. This preschool would not be what it is today without her vision, her tireless work ethic, and her deep love of students. We are so incredibly blessed to have her leadership.
If you see Karen around the church please thank her for an amazing 20 years and tell her how excited we are for the years to come!
Bailey Beam and I lead preschool chapel every month throughout the school year. We’ve gotten to know the kids really well. It is obvious how much they love their teachers and the preschool environment.
We always end chapel by asking each student if they have a prayer request. These prayer requests are genuine and heartfelt. They usually include prayers for their moms and dads, brothers and sisters, their teachers, their pets, their toys, the toys they want to get, and for Bailey and myself. Our community is fostering a sense, early in their lives, that God cares about what they have to say. It is beautiful to watch.
I’m reminded of the words of the prophet Isaiah when speaking about children:
All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.
—Isaiah 54:13
I truly believe all of the children in Unity’s preschool are being “taught by the Lord.” I’m thankful for the support of this church in making that possible, as well as the teachers and aides who’ve dedicated their time and passions to this important mission.
See you on Sunday!
