This is going to be a big Sunday!
All students should bring their backpacks to church. You will receive a special backpack tag and we will pray for your upcoming school year. We will pray for all students, teachers and parents as they embark on another year of learning. We will also give Bibles to our incoming 3rd grade class.
If that’s not enough, we will also begin a new sermon series titled “The Church Is A…”
What is the church?
Surprisingly, there are many ways to answer that question.
The Bible uses several different metaphors to describe the church. Each metaphor highlights a unique quality of church.
Over the course of four weeks, we will explore four metaphors for church.
August 11- The Church Is A…Body
“Equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.”
—Ephesians 4:12
August 18- The Church Is A…Family
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”
—Ephesians 2:19
August 25- The Church Is A…Bride
“The marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready.”
—Revelation 19:7
Sept 1- The Church Is…God’s House
“For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
—1 Corinthians 3:11
I look forward to studying these four metaphors with you!
I believe the church is one of the greatest gifts God has given to humanity. God uses the church to bring about so much goodness and healing.
Through this series, we will seek to deepen our understanding of this gift so that, with Christ, we can fully resemble the church as it is described in scripture.
See you on Sunday!
