Get to know Reed Conley, Organizing Pastor of the new Lincolnton church!
The planting of the new Presbyterian church in Lincolnton is a partnership between the Presbytery of Western North Carolina and Unity Presbyterian Church. A Steering Committee was created with three Presbyterian pastors from the Presbytery and three elders from Unity, and a representative from the Lincolnton community. This committee was in charge of creating a Mission Information Form for this new church and searching for candidates. After a number of interviews, we felt God calling Reed to this position. Thankfully, Reed also felt this call from God, and accepted the position.
Reed is not yet ordained in the PC(USA), although ordination is not required for new worshipping community leaders. He will pursue schooling after his arrival either through seminary or through our Presbytery’s Church Leadership School. Reed’s most recent experience is as a worship leader in the Methodist denomination, and he has extensive ministry experience in the Presbyterian church as well.
Reed’s first day will be on July 7. He’ll get started right away that day by moving furniture from First Presbyterian Church of Lincolnton into the new worship space. Do you have a truck or a van? We’d love to have your help in moving items from the previous church to the new church (chairs, tables, filing cabinets, etc). If you can help, email Reed at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are going to meet at the old church at 9:30 am. The new site is a 2 min drive, off of Main Street in Lincolnton.
Reed is going to be introduced in Unity’s worship service on July 11, so you’ll be able to meet him then. We will have a Welcome Reception between services for Reed and his family on July 18. Please join us in welcoming the Conley family!
As I mentioned in church on Sunday, the Conley family will be living in Unity’s manse until they are able to purchase a home in Lincolnton. The housing market is tight, so please be praying that they can find something that fits their family needs soon!
The new church’s first service will be on Sept. 12, 2021. Please continue to pray for the creation of this new church. I believe that God’s spirit is moving through this, and we get to come along for the ride.
Please remember to email Reed if you can help next week on July 7.
