261 years.
That’s how old Unity is this year.
This Sunday is Homecoming and we will celebrate the life and legacy of this historic church. As we reflect on this past year, we will:
—celebrate our newest members
—mourn those who have died
—recognize those who have been members for 40+ years (there are 20 of them!)
A lunch will be served after the 11 amservice. Please join us in the fellowship hall.
On Homecoming, the 9:30 and 11 amservices combine so that the whole congregation can be together. Therefore, there will only be one service at 11 am. There will be no 9:30 am service this Sunday (it will continue as normal the following Sunday). Sunday school and nursery will be offered during the 11 amservice.
Parking is going to be tight. Therefore, we have opened up an unused section of the cemetery on the far side of campus. If you are able to walk a bit of a distance, please consider parking in this new section.
To access it, drive past the three main church entrances. Then take the next right onto a gravel road that will be marked with poles and yellow tape. The yellow tape will show you where to park.
Each Homecoming, I find myself reflecting on Psalm 145.
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let each generation proclaim your power.
-Psalm 145:4
For generations, faithful Christians have proclaimed God’s power through this church. We are a part of that legacy. This continues through us today.
On Sunday, we’ll get the chance to celebrate the faithfulness of God and the work of those who came before us.
This church has been engaged in ministry long before we got here, and will be engaged in ministry long after we leave.
The only constant is God’s Spirit working through the people who call this church home. I’m grateful you are a part of that.
Together, let’s look to the future and ask, “What’s next, God?”
P.S. This will be the final Sunday before my sabbatical begins. My sabbatical will be from May 19 — July 27.
See you on Sunday!
