Kitchen Manager Job Description
The Kitchen Manager is primarily responsible for planning and preparing the weekly Wednesday Night meals for the families (all ages) and guests of Unity Presbyterian Church from mid-August to mid-May.
The Kitchen Manager reports to the Senior Pastor/ Head of Staff for Unity Presbyterian Church with regular interactions with the Church’s Communications Director, Church Treasurer, Facilities and Grounds Elder and Elder with responsibilities for the Christian Life Team.
Qualifications & Requirements:
● Experience preparing meals for large groups (50+ people)
● Preferred experience working in a kitchen used/ accessed by multiple individuals (e.g., church, restaurant, cafeteria, community center)
● Kitchen Manager must currently have a valid SERVSAFE FOOD HANDLER CERTIFICATE and will provide a copy to be held on file by UPC. Such CERTIFICATE is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance. Kitchen Manager shall be responsible to renew as needed and will provide a copy to be held on file by UPC. Any training or tuition cost (renewals only) shall be paid by UPC which requires the prior approval by the Christian Life team.
● It is highly encouraged (but not required) that the Kitchen Manager initiate the process of learning/training to obtain a valid SERVSAFE MANAGER CERTIFICATION. Such CERTIFICATION is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance. Any training or tuition cost to obtain such Certification or any renewals shall be paid by UPC which requires the prior approval by the Christian Life team.
● Candidates cannot be a member of UPC while serving as Kitchen Manager.
The roles and responsibilities of the Kitchen Manager are as follows:
● Educate and emphasize the need to eliminate and prevent food borne illnesses and hazards. Note: Although we are not subject to inspections, etc. we intend to always foster an environment of best practices while maintaining a safe, secure and healthy environment. We intend to comply with all current industry regulations and standards.
● Create healthy and cost-effective menus for each Wednesday night meal, which should emphasize a balance of nutrients and food groups (Gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian options should be made available and labeled.)
● Provide training and oversight to all new Wednesday Night meal volunteers (Volunteer recruitment is the responsibility of the Christian Life Team.)
● Follow the Kitchen Use Procedures – with a goal of maintaining a safe environment and reducing unnecessary waste.
