Mission Trip

Chris Easterling, a member and elder at Unity, traveled with Samaritan’s Feet to Nigeria on June 5-15, 2009 to conduct basketball clinics and hand out shoes to the people of that country. Below are updates from his trip:

June 8, 2009:
Dear Unity Presbyterian Church,

I just wanted you to know that we made it to Nigeria fine and started today in the process of distributing shoes. We conducted basketball clinics and gave shoes out to basketball teams on the courts where Andrew Lovedale learned to play. We then went to a school out in the country where we ministered to over 200+ young children. Tomorrow we will visit a school and then go to the hospital to work with the medical teams there.

We need everyone to pray for the release of the large container of shoes being held by the government at the port in Lagos. Unless they release the container soon we will not be able to complete our distribution. Pray for one of our team whose home was broken into yesterday and who will be traveling back tomorrow. Pray for the team as a whole to give them strength to endure all that goes with this type of mission work.

So far this has been every more powerful than I imagined. I am so blessed to be part of such a wonderful church with a caring congregation. I thank God that you enabled me to come to witness here in Nigeria. I'll try to write again soon and God bless.

More than words,
Chris

June 13, 2009:
Hey all.

I finally got to a computer again in Nigeria and wanted to give you an update. We are in Lagos now after spending the first part of the trip in Benin City. We have washed feet and distributed shoes at a church, school, orphanage and hospital. The need here is great but the spirit of the people is quite uplifting. African worship is like no other. From the youngest child to the oldest adult they know the scripture and are quite passionate about praising God. Today we visited the most impoverished area yet. Words cannot describe it so I'll wait to share later with the pictures. Please keep the team in your prayers as we wrap up our trip over the weekend. I miss you all.

More than words,
Chris
